THE SCHOOL: UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA
In 1954, the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) was established in Bandung as a Teachers College. It opened as a public university in 1999, providing degree programs in humanities, sciences, and religion, among other subjects. Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia is made up of five regional campuses: Cibiru, Sumedang, Purwakarta, Tasikmalaya, and Serang.
The university comprises nine faculties, namely: educational science, mathematics and science, language and literature, economics and business, science, technology and vocational, health, art and design, and postgraduate school. Undergraduate bachelor degrees in community education, psychology, accounting, geography, and nursing are among the options available to students in these faculties. Postgraduate master's degrees in social science, Arabic language, architecture, and accounting are also available. Thirdly, the institution provides postgraduate doctoral programs in a variety of fields, including education and counseling psychology, English language, mathematics, and psychology.
It is also important to know that Indonesia's education system comprises four levels of education: primary (grades 1–6) or SD (Indonesian: Sekolah Dasar - "Elementary School"), junior secondary (grades 7–9) or known to be called SMP (Indonesian: Sekolah Menengah Pertama - "First Middle-grade School"), senior secondary (grades 10–12) or also called SMA (Indonesian: Sekolah Menengah Atas - "Upper Middle-grade School"), and higher education. The first two levels constitute 'basic education' as that term is used in the Indonesian context.
In comparison to the Philippines, we call the 11th and 12th grades a senior high level while in Indonesia, they call it SMA. In addition, SMA Labschool in UPI comprises three grades: 10, 11, and 12. We are tasked to do our practice teaching in SMA Labschool. SMA Labschool is a teaching school or demonstration school for Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The SMA Laboratorium of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) extends a warm welcome to the student interns coming from the FEU Roosevelt Cainta in Cainta, Rizal, Philippines, and other partner schools for the 9th Batch SEA Teacher Student Exchange Program organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).
On October 20, 2003, SMA Labschool UPI was officially opened by the education minister of Indonesia. To make it run well, the administration prioritizes the development of research and excellence. They do believe that SMA Labschool could offer the best thing to support all students to be great academically, socially, and religiously.
Another thing that Labschool has is the vision stating that SMA Labschool UPI is a leading school in innovation, education service, teaching, and learning processes at the national level and South East Asia level in 2025.
